DRAMA BEHIND THE BADGE: A TRUE LOVE STORY

In this raw, unflinching memoir, Reggie Gridd takes you inside the life of a Navy veteran, law enforcement officer, husband, and father who's fought battles both seen and unseen.
From the weight of systemic injustice to the wars waged in his own mind, he shares the moments that broke him, the grace that held him, and the fight that never left.
This is not just a story about survival. It's a story about finding your voice when the world tries to silence you-and daring to be loud anyway.

Foreword
By Bishop Roy Dixon, D.D.
In Ezekiel 37, the prophet stands before dry bones—bones that represent hopelessness, defeat, and finality. God does not ask Ezekiel for statistics. He does not ask for a strategy. He asks a question: “Son of man, can these bones live?” It is a question of faith. It is a question of vision. It is a question that demands courage. That same question confronted Reggie.
Would he allow bitterness to define him?
Would he allow fear to silence him?
Would he retreat, or would he rise?
This book reveals his answer.
What makes this story extraordinary is not merely that he endured hardship—it is that he chose action in the middle of it. Faith, as Scripture reminds us, is not passive. “Faith without works is dead.” Reggie did not simply pray for restoration; he moved toward it. He faced evaluations that felt more like interrogations of his worth. He stood before systems that seemed immovable. He walked through moments that tested not only his professionalism but his manhood. And his family was watching.
One of the most sacred truths in this story is that this is, indeed, a love story. It is the love of a husband who refused to quit when the pressure mounted. The love of a wife who carried weight without complaint. The love of a family bound together not by comfort, but by covenant. In seasons of crisis, love is not proven by words; it is proven by presence. And in this valley, love stood firm.
I had the privilege of standing with him and his family during some of their most painful days. What I saw was not a broken man, but a man being refined. Not a career ending, but a testimony forming. Not a grave, but ground for resurrection.

Second Edition
There is drama behind the badge, yes. But there is also devotion behind the struggle. There is prayer behind the process. There is courage behind the uniform.
Strength is often misunderstood. It is not the absence of fear. It is obedience in the presence of fear. It is choosing integrity when compromise seems easier. It is choosing faith when doubt feels justified. Reggie chose courage—not because the valley disappeared, but because he trusted that God was present in it.
This book is for anyone who has felt wrongly accused. For anyone who has watched a door close without explanation. For anyone who has questioned their calling in the aftermath of disappointment.
It is proof that valleys are not permanent. That reputations can be restored. That dignity can be reclaimed. That what feels dead can, indeed, live again.
As you turn these pages, you will encounter pain, perseverance, and profound faith. But above all, you will witness resurrection. And if you have ever stood in your own valley asking, “Can these dry bones live again?” — let this story answer you:
Yes. They can.
Yes. They will.
And yes, with God, they do.

Mr. Gridd has drawn from his personal experience of trauma across his
lifespan, including growing up exposed to community violence, losing a brother to
suicide, serving in the Navy, and his work as a sheriff, to create a faith-based approach
to trauma recovery. He has not shied away from sharing the challenges he has faced in
creating an approach accessible to others who have suffered traumatic experiences, including those in law enforcement and veterans.
As a psychologist with 25 years of experience in treating trauma, I am proud of the work
that has been done in the development of empirically-supported treatments for PTSD.
However, despite the many advances that I have witnessed over the course of my
career, there remains a need for more avenues to address trauma-recovery. While
traditional mental health approaches benefit many survivors, often spiritual aspects of
recovery are not fully addressed. Many trauma survivors struggle with spirituality and
faith.

I am in the middle of Chapter 3 of your book. It is a treasure of your life's experiences that many of us go through. Sometimes it just isn't peaches and cream like we all wish.
May the Lord always bless you.
